All students will define Dance
Students will explore the 4 components of Dance
• Body
• Energy
• Space
• Time
Knowing that the Dancers instrument is their Body: all classes will follow and design movement exercises to train the body for strength, flexibility and balance.
Elements of Body Movement
• Shapes: curved, angular, straight. We create body shapes.
• Locomotor=traveling steps and actions
• Non-locomotor=in-place actions
Elements of Space
• Place: personal space and shared/general space
• Level
• Size
• Direction
• Pathway
Elements of Energy
• Dynamics
• Qualities of movement: smooth/sharp, heavy/light, tight/loose
Elements of Time
•Tempo
• Rhythm
Areas of Study will include:
Composition
• Making Dances-- Choreography:
• Beginning Middle End
• Meeting and Parting
• Combining the Elements of Dance
Audience and Performer
• Analyze and Critique
• Discuss dance using dance vocabulary
